This book excels in all categories. It is well written and easy to read. The author provides comprehensive information and visual examples of color and shadow theory, making it easy for the reader to develop ideas that are sound and successful.Numerous techniques are presented with plenty of pictures to illustrate concepts and procedures. The author adds her own personal experiences with Tips that make the techniques easier to execute.There are even some examples of what happens if you violate the principles of shadow placement and color -- nice to see how NOT to do it, as well as how to be successful with your project.
I love 3D effects on quilts because I think they look cool. This book gives excellent instructions on how to achieve that look on your own projects, plus there are projects you can do included in the book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and seeing the quilts in the book and can't wait to apply their techniques on my own quilts!
Gorgeous pictures, full of inspiration, easy to understand, clearly written instructions. I have always been intrigued by 3-D /optical illusion quilts but assumed they'd be difficult to piece. The scariest aspect for me was learning how to select the right fabric to ensure the 3-D depth. No longer, Ms. Wise's well written book has giving me the confidence to tackle the quilt on the cover. She inspires creativity. I foresee my future and it is filled with dimensional quilt making.
This book is well written and features some fascinating ideas. It will definitely appeal to those who are interested in stretching the concept of quilting into the realm of fabric art. The more traditional quilter will find value in incorporating some of the techniques into their designs to make them even more personal and unique. It is a fun book and has merit for a wide audience as the ideas span all levels and types of quilters and can be incorporated into other medium as well. A lovely book.

After I got this book from the library, I knew I had to have one of my own. I love quilts that have optical illusions in them, and this book has many! The patterns are so unique yet the directions are simple and easy to understand. Colleen Wise is a very talented quilt artist who creates quilts "outside the box". If you want to create an unusual quilt, you must have this book.
Excellent! Covers many aspects of shadows - floating objects, blocks, balls, embossing, using paint sticks for realistic illusions.
