Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆The Hatfield’s and McCoy’s have nothing on the Porters when it comes to hillbilly justice and feuding! Jamie Begley once again takes us into the hills of Kentucky into the bad blood, fighting and all around where the bad boy Porter brothers live. Keeping What’s His is book one in the Porter Brothers Trilogy and delves into Tate’s life and the love he lost.Tate Porter is the head of his family and it is his responsibility to protect his family at all cost. The cost while at times seems to consume his very soul and crush the life from him is a code that he will always live by! Tate is a Porter! He never retreats, never leaves an enemy standing and never forgets a wrong done to him and his family. When he sees Sutton Creech again after six years, his past and future collide and he realizes the feelings he has for her have never changed. Can a hillbilly convince a now turned city slicker to come home? To once again return to her roots and the man she once said she loved?Life has been difficult for Sutton Creech. While most would disagree looking in from the outside, they do not see the scars that she bears on her soul, her heart and her body! Estranged from her parents, she finds it hard to return to the place that it all began, Treepoint, Kentucky. Maybe returning will finally release her from the past and let her move forward to a new future. A future that is not haunted by the one man she loved and was betrayed by, Tate Porter. Sutton knows that it will be hard to visit and not run into Tate, perhaps seeing him will finally heal her. But when fate takes a hand, all bets are off! Tate is not the young man she left behind. He is now all alpha male and wants her to explain what happened! Why she ran away?If you are looking for a sweet love story, then this is not the book for you! Yes it does have a happily ever after, action filled angst and sizzling sex but Ms. Begley gives the reader so much more than that. Her characters are unforgettable, the story heart wrenching while at the same time satisfying. This is a remarkable beginning to the Porter Brothers’ Trilogy!

To be honest, when I first read that there was going to be a Porter series I was a little iffy. All we knew of the Porter brothers was that they were weed growers, Rachel's brothers and that one of them had a long lost son; I didn't know how she was going to make a story out of them. But as usual never doubt Jamie Begley because this book was heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. While I sometimes thought Tate was a jerk, there was such depth in his character that it made up for those moments. Once he claimed Sutton as his, let me tell you, he became a worthy, steamy, possessive hero like no other.Sutton was such a beautiful heroine that proved she was willing to sacrifice anything for the man she loved and because of that she suffered for years. I loved that she was finally able to get her HEA with the only man she ever loved.A great beginning to a new series. I hope Greer is next in the series, that man has some major making-up to do and has to prove he is worthy of his love.

Oh Tate... you're a complicated man. Unfortunately that didn't come across very well in this book. You mostly seemed like a jerk or possibly needing medication. But you are a lot more likable than your brother Greer. After reading all the Last Rider books, I have a soft spot for the Porter family and was looking forward to this spin-off series. After finishing the story, I was content with this book and felt satisfied with the ending but it didn't have the same type of feels as The Last Riders. What I didn't like the most was Sutton's back story and concept of them testing each other. It felt gratuitously tragic and didn't feel to mesh well with the rest of the story.

I love Jamie and grab each book the day it's released. I even plan my reading time so I can start reading the moment it appears on my Kindle. I know she felt pressured to get the book to us on the day she promised and maybe that caused the mistakes to be more noticeable.I can overlook missing prepositions, missing words, dicey punctuation. My biggest pet peeve for any book is confusing characters or action. It seemed glaring to me, the confusion with Cheryl's name appearing where Sutton's should have been. But I still not going to take away a star for even that big no no.I loved the additional insights into the oldest Porter brother, why he is the stubborn, opinionated, hard, hillbilly that he is. And like all of us, proud of it. Yes, we really do eat cornbread crumbled up in our milk, but my father preferred buttermilk. Yes, we do consider squirrels to make good stew, I prefer fried. But I have to admit I have never had raccoon or possum. Taught to fish and hunt, check. Eaten snake, deer, wild hog, fog legs and bear, check. Proud to be a hill-billy, double check, and yes, we are smarter then red-necks!Thanks Jamie, for a reminder of my childhood, my heritage, family and friends. But I still hate starting your books, because they have to end......
